These charts show the average number of drinks an individual consumes on a typical occasion.
One standard drink = 12oz. beer, 5oz. wine, 1.5oz. 80-proof liquor
Of Note:
- Nearly 7 out of 10 students drink one, two, or three drinks on a typical occasion. The average number of drinks on a typical occasion is 2.6 drinks.
- Over 80% of female students who drink consume 3 drinks or fewer on a typical occasion. However, nearly 20% drink 4 or more drinks on occasion.
- While nearly 80% of male students who drink consume 4 drinks or fewer on a typical occasion, a significant percentage (slightly over 20%) skew higher, typically consuming 5 or more drinks.
- The average number of drinks students consume on a typical occasion remains consistent through junior year and decreases in senior year and for graduate/professional students.
